Hotel The Roosevelt proud host during Four Freedoms Awards 2026
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, Middelburg will be completely focused on freedom, human rights and international solidarity during the presentation of the Four Freedoms Awards. The Four Freedoms Awards are presented to individuals and organizations that actively champion fundamental human freedoms. The awards are based on Franklin D. Roosevelt's famous 1941 speech, in which he spoke of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear. Since 1982, the ceremony has alternated between Middelburg and New York, due to the Zeeland roots of the Roosevelt family.
The 2026 ceremony will take place in the Nieuwe Kerk in Middelburg and promises to be an exceptional presentation. Among the laureates is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
